“Women of fire” exhibition reappears after a year  Comes with “…after 13 months” extension

By Yifredew Ayehu

An art exhibition entitled” Women of Fire...13Months Later” is on show at the Alliance Ethio- Francaise as a follow up to the “Women of fire” exhibition that was held at the same venue in April 2002.
The pottery exhibition, opened on Wednesday portrays the works of ketchene potters who have worked with Etiye’ Dimma Poulsen, a Danish sculptor with an Ethiopian origin.
Last year Etiye’ Dimma, who lives in France, has been working with the Ketchene potters in the exhibition that was marked as the biggest moment of Artistic season in Ethiopia.
The works of Etiye Dimma Poulsen are exhibited throughout the world in Museums (Herebert Johnson museum of art in N.Y.C…), many galleries (Claudine Legrand, in Paris…)and private collectors have acknowledged her talent and have identified themselves with the harmony of her creations which are cracked totems made out of clay, water and fire in which are expressed serenity and meditation.
The understanding a world famous female sculptor and female-potters, marginalized from the society that fails to note the contribution of their works, had left many mesmerized.
“It is the search for form” had said then Etiye “and also the earth that has united us”.
The relationship opened new perspectives of creation for the potters of Kechene and allowed them to participate in the Biennial of Design held at Saint Etiyenne, in France in November 2002. Last year’s edition had chosen Ethiopia as guest of honor. This highlight directed at Ethiopia was an exceptional opportunity to promote the art and crafts to an international well-informed audience.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until August
