Educational, health project readied for service
Educational and health
projects executed in Diba Tena and Pawe Special woredas of the
Benshangul-Gumuz Regional State by the Ethiopian Social Rehabilitation
and Development Fund (ESRDF) branch office at a cost of over two
million birr have reportedly been readied for service.

Nur said the construction work of a health station and a secondary
school has already been finalized.
Mohammed said over 25,000
people are expected to benefit from the projects.
Meanwhile, some of the 11
projects launched in Sayint Woreda of South Wollo Zone in Amhara
National Regional State at a cost of over 3.3 million birr have been
finalized.

Head Moges Tadesse said that work on the construction of a veterinary
clinic, an irrigation development project and the development of 17
springs was finalized.
Moges said the
construction and expansion of 25 alternative basic education centers
and six schools as well as the repair of a 39-kms road have also been
completed.
The sinking of water well
and the construction of a primary school were some of the activities
that have also been carried out.
The government allocated
the fund while the public made labour contribution for the execution
of the projects.
He said over 30,000
residents are expected to benefit from the projects.

Department designates industrial zone
The Haddya Zone Trade,
Industry and Urban Development Coordination Department in the Southern
Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State disclosed that it
has designated more than 63 hectares of land in Hossana town as
national zone.
Acting Department Head,
Negash Desta said that construction of infrastructure, including
electricity and road, is underway in the industrial district.
Negash said the
industrial zone is ideal for medium and large-scale industries
particularly for agro-industries, and land would be provided for
investors to be engaged in the sector at lower prices.
Hossana is the second
town to be selected for industrial development in the state, it was
learnt.
Water projects go operational
Four of the seven potable
water projects launched in Hadiya Zone of the Southern Nations,
Nationalities and Peoples Regional State with an outlay of over 2.2
million birr, the Zonal Water Mines and Energy Desk announced.
Desk Head Temesgen Matios
said that two developed springs and water well have begun catering
services in two woredas of the zone.
He said six public water
fountains and six animal gushes are built in four rural Kebeles of the
two woredas.
Temesgen said efforts are
underway to finalize the construction of the remaining water projects
within the coming three months.
Upon fully going
operational the water projects could benefit over 43,000 people in the
zone.
HARAR
France backs Harar town development
The ambassador of France
here said that her government would continue providing support to
speed up the development of Harar town and preserve tourist
attractions.
Ambassador Jossette
Dalant said that the French government has been exerting utmost
efforts in portraying the positive features of the town to the UNESCO.
The ambassador was
speaking at the opening of a cultural exhibition held in Arthur
Rimbaud Centre in the town.

FAO provides 4.2 mln. birr for food security
The UN Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) has granted 4.2 million birr for the
implementation of projects aimed at ensuring food security in
Hintalo-Wajirat Woreda of Southern Tigay Zone, the Woreda
Administration announced.
Head of Food Security
Programme with the Administration, Belay Gebre Medhin said that the
sum would be used for the purchase of plough oxen, capacity building
and environmental sanitary and strength erring cooperatives, among
others.
Belay said about one
million birr was allocated for the current year while the remaining
would be used for the execution of projects next year.
138-kms
Abiadi-Sekota Road remains idle
Residents of the Abiadi
town in Tigray State said the 138km Abiadi-Sekota Road constructed at
a cost of over 61 million birr remained idle.
The residents said though
the construction work of the road linking Tigray and Amhara Regional
States was launched in 1986 E.C in cooperation with the two Stats and
finalized last year, it has not yet been open for traffic.
Head of Planning and
programme Service with the State Rural Roads Authority, Michael Amare,
said on his part that the road was not open due to the delay on the
construction of two bridges that had to be undertaken by the Amhara
National Regional State.
Manager of the Amhara
State Rural Roads Authority, Ahmed Salih said the work on the
construction of the bridges in Zamra and Tselare areas has already
been finalized.
He said the bridges would
soon be handed over the Ethiopian Roads Authority.

Obituary
Dr. Abdulmejid Hussein
was interred in his hometown Dire Dawa on Monday the 29th of March
after dying soon after he returned from New York City where he served
as Ambassador to the United Nations. “Abdulmejid was a renaissance
man. He grappled with the biggest issues facing Ethiopia and the
world, but also enjoyed the little things of life and he paid
attention to details of relationships. He was a man of the people in
the most genuine sense, accessible, and caring, optimistic and very
open. This was his hallmark,” wrote one friend. Three children, Dalmar,
Rahma, and Bilen and his wife Annab survive him. He will be missed by
many.
