Emerson sees bright future in Ethiopia

By Tamiru Geda

EMERSON Process Management, a Boston based American company sees bright business prospects in Ethiopia, despite the low usage of its products by manufacturers in order to compete in the modern business world.
Speaking to Capital, Engineer Mequanent Kumsa Executive of Adulis Engineering East African Equipment and Controls, and exclusive representative of Emerson Process Management said that EMERSON has the full capacity of assisting local companies, as long as the demand exists. But for some reason most of the processing plants in Ethiopia are not using Emerson products such as equipments for measuring pressures, temperatures, etc… “We could play a significant role in the technological development of manufacturers by updating their technologies.”
He appreciated the arrival of big companies in Ethiopia such as Petronas and SIL, which will engage in the extraction of natural gas. Emerson provides petroleum industries with different services. “They would use measurement tools made by our company for their operations, and that would be good for us. I’m very motivated,” said Mequanet
But he pointed out that some local manufacturers may not be able to use Emerson’s products not due to its high price but because some of the local manufacturers’ equipment is outdated. At the international level, Emerson has approached petroleum companies like SIL to give them service at a local base, here in Ethiopia.
Adulis Engineering East African Equipment and Controls is also the distributor of General Electric Industrial Systems, which is based in America.
