Children recreation center opened in Addis
By Our Staff Reporter
A fully equipped children recreation center, named Sabina Park,
located near Flamingo Bar and Restaurant on Bole Road started
operations last week January 19, 2005.
Sabina Park is constructed on a 400 square meters of land inside the
Mussie Garage compound. The owner of the new park Fitsum Mussie told
Capital that the project took 10 years to conduct research on the
right places for the safety of children. “Based on our research, we
agreed that children need good and safe playing facilities, which are
lacking in Ethiopia,” he said. “For many years, I have been planning
to open a recreation center for children and finally I succeed in
establishing Sabina Park.”
Moreover, he indicated that the center could give service for 1,000
children simultaneously at its various play grounds including Aladdin
Jet Ride, Supper Train, Carton Train, GO Train, Carts as well as at
its theatre and TV room. According to Fitsum, the theatre and TV room
is built for giving multi purpose services such as showing
documentaries and educational films. Fitsum believes that this would
improve the creative capacity of children.
Besides the children’s playground, the main bar and other rooms and
cottages depicting Ethiopian culture are also constructed inside the
compound of Sabina Park. Different paintings meant to educate and
entertain children are also displayed in each room. In addition to
refreshment, both children and grown-ups would enjoy the beauty of the
park and its services.
The owner also disclosed that playing facilities like Aladdin Jet
Ride, Carton Train, Go Tracks, and Supper Track use electric power and
can be used by 16 children at a time. He added that Sabina Park has a
parking lot, which can accommodate 50 cars at the same time. “The park
will provide Internet service for children and for their parents; and
if any customer needs a quite and calm environment, the reading room
in the park would be suiting,” he added.
Finally he pointed out that the center has created job opportunity for
50 employees.
Fitsum was not willing to state the exact figures of his cost to build
the center.
