Several injured in AAU clash

Several students were believed to be injured in clashes that erupted on Saturday afternoon. Students were taken to Zewditu and Black Lion hospitals for treatment.
Almost 10 ambulances were transporting students to hospitals from 4:00 pm in the afternoon till 8:00 pm in the evening.
Federal Police went to the compound to control the fighting that erupted between students.
The clash that started at Sidist Kilo Campus continued on to Arat Kilo campus.
An autopsy procedure that was conducted on a student of Addis Ababa University following his sudden death had sparked another chaotic demonstration by fellow students.
Mohamed Abdurrahman, a third year physics student at the science faculty died while giving a class presentation at the Arat Kilo campus.
Black Lion and Zewditu officials declined to comment on how many students arrived at the hospitals.

 

ETC, ZTE sign 1st phase project from $1.5 bln loan

The Ethiopian Telecommunic- ations Corporation (ETC) as part of the 1.5 billion dollar loan deal signed with the Chinese ZTE for the upgrading of its telephone network, signed a fiber transmission backbone project, mobile network expansion and wireless phone projects.
The two parties on Friday signed a 1.39 billion birr agreement providing for the execution of the three telecom service expansion projects.
Installation of the fiber optic cable would enable the country to have international connections via Kenya in addition to the existing ones through the Sudan and Djibouti.

Mulu Ketsela has say in Wolfowitz’s fate

World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz'sfate will be decided on Monday April 30, after appearing before a panel of seven bank directors that also include Mulu Ketsela, former state minister of Finance and Economic Development. The panel is to make recommendations on his future to the full 24-member board. The board hasn't provided a timeframe for a decision.
Mulu Ketsela is the current Executive Director for 22 African countries.

Professor Richard Pankhurst is the son of Miss Sylvia Pankhurst, the great British suffragette and advocate of Ethiopia during and after Fascist Italy's occupation of Ethiopia. Professor Pankhurst taught for many years at Addis Ababa University and has written widely on Ethiopian history and culture. He is also the founder of Addis Ababa University's Institute of Ethiopian Studies and a founding member of the Axum Obelisk Return Committee and the Association for the Return of the MaqdalaEthiopian Treasures (AFROMET)
