What’s your opinion on scientific technologies changing the current livelihood of nations around the world?

“I can’t stand a day with out my laptop. Every thing I need, my day to day schedule and my files are in it and I have to check my e-mail twice or three times a day. My laptop is a must have. It makes my life easier.”
Meseret, web designer

“Thanks to technology I have a beautiful face. If it wasn’t for surgery I could not remove the ugly tattoo from my face. I think technology is changing our life positively.”

Yewebdar, a hotel owner

“We can take the change positively and negatively. The internet has a vast amount of advantages and at the same time negative consequences like pornography.”

Chalew, internet café owner

“Take me as an example, I have no social life. After school or on weekends, I spend my time playing video games. I don’t go out. In fact, I have no friends. My family is worried that I might be addicted because some times I skip lunch with out noticing it.”

Tariku, high school student

“The best innovation of technology

is the cellular phone. It makes my life much easier, even with the network problems.”
Tizita, salesperson

“I love taking pictures, especially of my family and friends on different occasions. I might get bored or broke so I do not process the films. I have a lot of negative films; now a friend of mine has brought me a digital camera. I can save pictures I took and print it on paper to see if the image is good enough.”
Abraham, Tour guide

“I read lots of scientific fiction. Some times it is difficult for me to understand the plots so I watch movies based on the books. I believe technology has played a big role in the film industry.”
Mahlet, IT student

Technology is power

Capitalism has changed the livelihood of the society in general. What brought capitalism in to practice was industrialization and modern means of production. Technology is getting acceptance easily because it is making life easy.
The words, “Survival of the fittest”, explain the age of industrialization fittingly. It has increased productivity with a new means of production for some. Those who have and survive become powerful. The don’t haves struggle to fit the system and become inferior to the haves. Countries with power are countries with technology. The emergence of technologies has helped capitalism to impose its will.
The day to day development of materials leads to high productivity. An abundance of products gives the owner an upper hand to influence and corrupt others.
Developments of new scientific technology are supported by the capitalism system. The more technology advances, the more powerful it will be.
This back and forth of reality doesn’t work only between countries but the hierarchy flows down to societies and to individual lives also.
When you have the necessary technology at work or at home, the more enjoyable your life becomes.
Though technology has vast positive impacts it also has a negative consequence. Take what happened with nuclear power and with the internet. Both of these developments are mixed blessings.
Whether we accept it or not, the advancement of technology is forever changing the livelihood of most. The gap in class difference is getting wider than ever. Life is becoming easier and more complex simultaneously. Those with the technology have veto power over the don’t haves.
