It’s plain to see even through the exhaust fumes choking Addis that our days are numbered … literally. Mother Earth has had it … and she’s telling us in no uncertain ways: the world has been given notice.
Frankly, I don’t know what could be done to prevent his extinction level danger. The studies and projections are very frightening. I’m really worried that it may be too late.

Climate change? Of course, the climate changes- its been like this before humans were created and will continue to change after we are gone – whether through a planetary collision or more likely, from nuclear holocaust.

Polluting factories should install filters in their smokestacks. Old cars should be taken off the streets or if not, be fitted with catalytic converters.

Bio-fuels are the answer to climate change. We need to invest in such technology like Brazil has done. There, 70% of the cars use ethanol. This fuel is something that Ethiopia is well suited to produce.

Global warming is
becoming global warming.
What is your opinion
on preventing
this danger?
Cannibalism Climate change has brought about a chang in world outlook as this man-made, near certain calamity threatens to be the greatest challenge faced by humanity. The environment, more than ever before and with greater intensity each passing year, has become the pre-eminent global equalizer. Already, a considerable portion of the effect is known to be irreversible whatever mitigation is performed. It will happen to all of civilization but we the poor will be more affected.
How shall we view this epoch in the human line? Climate change is not just an event that is comprehensible to the limited intelligence of a creature that was foolish enough to had believed the earth was with resources infinite. Future historians (if any remain ……..after 200 years) or aliens will summarize in their logbooks They developed their way into extinction.’
Climate Change is in many respects what the sudden onset of the Ice Age must have meant for dinosaurs, mammoths and sabre toothed tigers. The only difference (and perhaps a point that is like hara-Kiri to my argument), is that a comet smashed into earth 10,00 years ago beginning the Ice Age. It was a natural and therefore good extinction.
What humans have done is a sort of auto-cannibalism ... a destiny with self inflicted destruction.
However, we cannot afford to give up. That’s too scary a prospect. Harping on about how terrible we are as a race is not going to solve climate change.
We can start by making certain painful sacrifices. In fact, a complete transformation in life style is required to lessen the impact of climate change Tough questions are a head. Are we ready for say, to car pool with our co-workers? How many of us have done something as simple yet very wise as changing to power efficient florescent lighting? Are the big guys in their bigger cars willing to cut down to an 800 cc clunker?
To conclude, Conservation, Intelligent Utilization and Constant Innovation might save the third rock from the sun.
This is not to say that we will escape a fair measure of the irreversible effects. Africa in particular does stand a good chance of developing in a sustainable way. This is an opportunity that almost all developed nations and the emerging economies have failed to utilize. If Africans wisen up today, then we will have many more tomorrows.
