Meles holds talks tête-à-tête with TFG Parliament Speaker
( May 24, 2007, ENA) - Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on Thursday held talks tête-à-tête with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur.
The talks held between Prime Minister Meles and Speaker Mohamed Nur centered on current situations in Somalia.
After his talks with Meles, the TFG parliament speaker told journalists that discussions focused particularly on the Somalia National Reconciliation conference, expected to be held soon.
He said Ethiopia has provided huge support to the TFG at a time when fundamentalist and terrorist forces posed danger to the existence of the legitimate government.
He said he discussed with the prime minister also the issue of existing cooperation between Ethiopia and the TFG.
Later on the day, the Speaker, who led a TFG delegation on a weeklong visit to Ethiopia, gave a press briefing at the Ghion Hotel.
He said there has now been “a new page” in the relations between Ethiopia and Somalia.
“We urge the Eritrean government to refrain from interfering in domestic issues of Somalia,” he said.
The TFG is pursuing the legal path of bringing suspects of crimes to the court of law, he said.
Preparations finalized to colorfully celebrate May 28: Ministry
( May 24, 2007, ENA) - Preparations have been finalized to celebrate the 16th anniversary of May 28 with various events, the Ministry of Information said.
In its statement sent to Ethiopian News Agency, the ministry said, May 28 celebration this year is so special that it occurs following the successive growth of the national economy for four consecutive years and at eve of the new Ethiopian millennium.
Accordingly, a panel discussion that confers on the role of the various segments of the society toward the victory of May 28 would be held on 26 May 2007.
Moreover, a photographic exhibition that depicts prevailing situations in Ethiopia before and after 28 May 1991 as well as victories and achievements witnessed so far would be opened on 27 May 2007 at the Addis Ababa Conference Center.
The photographic exhibition, which is expected to be visited by several thousands of people, would remain open until 4 June 2007, the statement said.

Queen Elizabeth sends congratulatory message to Ethiopia
(May 24, 2007 ENA) - Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth of Britain has sent her congratulatory message to President Girma Woldegiorgis and Prime Minster Meles Zenawi in connection with May 28, marking the demise of the Derg Regime.
In a press release the British Embassy sent to Ethiopian News Agency here on Thursday, the Queen’s message was sent to the people and government of Ethiopia on the occasion of the 16th founding anniversary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
“It gives me great pleasure on the occasion of your National Day to extend to Your Excellency and the people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia my warmest greetings and every good whish for a peaceful and prosperous future,” the release quoted the Queen as saying
President Urges Nations, Nationalities To Strengthen Their Ties
(May 24, 2007 ENA) - President Girma Woldegiorgis urges nation and nationalities to further bolster their ties to bring about consensus and enhance development, good governance and democratic system in the country in the upcoming millennium.
Girma said the celebration of 1000th founding anniversary of Harar town adds color to the Ethiopian millennium celebration.
Speaking at discussion forum organized here in Addis Ababa on Wednesday in connection of Harari nations millennium celebration president Girma said the millennium is good chance to promote Ethiopia’s natural, cultural and historical resource and values.
Girma said the coincidence of the celebration of the Ethiopian millennium and the Harar’s 1000th founding anniversary makes the occasion is historical and memorable.
Girma called upon natives and friend of Harar residing in and out of Ethiopia to contribute their share to the development of this historic town.
Culture and Tourism Minister, Ambassador Mohammed Dirir on his part said Harar is one of the oldest towns in the East African countries.
The minister said Harar is one of the few historical world heritages and many expected to visit the town in its 1000th founding anniversary
