Crying Over Spilt-milk

California has experienced in recent years bitter wild fire plenty of times, the recent being a ferocious one resulting in the loss of lives and movable and immovable properties of astronomical dimension. Yet, the pull out of residents to temporary shelters has been the result of nature’s severe penalty on innocent souls.
The Iberian Peninsula had experienced similar calamities. The recent similar episode in the case of Greece had been followed by sharp public criticism of the Government for lacking early and sufficient preparation to deal with such havoc.
Similarly, other spots of the world face some kind of natural disaster either in the form of earthquake, tsunami, land slide, flood, tornado, cyclone, or typhoon. This includes the recent Mexican and Far-East flooding.
Truly speaking forest fires are sometimes caused by human errors if not deliberate hooligan actions, although it may not be ruled out. Some of these natural disasters for those who believe in the bible were already predicted and the knowledge of it would not be strange phenomenon unlike its physical force. However, they have caused consequential havoc of immense proportion on many innocent societies of the world.
These problems have remained to this day nature’s mysteries of power. The degradation of our environment has been aggravated by such situations still farther or vice-versa.
Despite popular criticism about the handling of such disasters and the lack of advance preparation by the different governments, the state machineries have been seen being mobilized whenever such disastrous situation occurred. The U.S. Government’s move in the Katrina case in the New Orleans was a clear case in point and a unique situation at that which showed the Government’s concern over the matter that had already caused grave displacement of the residents besides the colossal havoc on individual and Governmental economic installations and infrastructures.
It seems to me that the Greek fire on the other hand, had equally drawn the Government’s concern to fight the fire and save lives with the limited national resources and with international cooperation.
Nonetheless, there is yet a question that has to be asked and dealt with appropriately. The President of the United States with all his concerned officials as well as the Greek Prime Minister on his part have been restless during such disasters and have managed to deploy their forces and all technologies capable to arrest the fires with a view to saving lives and properties including the natural settings. The recent Mexican flooding is another case in point. But, what have they done to stop such happenings from recurring? Obviously, the California fire has repeatedly occurred.
It is sure to say that such are the results of natural phenomena in most cases and that they might happen now and then. But, had there been any effort to control such a wild fire by any other means than outside the conventional preventive systems?
We have now proved beyond doubt that the conventional fire fighting systems are incapable to arrest such kind of havocs much less prevent new rises. I think this is an opportune moment for world leaders to seize the experiences of these ferocious outcomes to change direction towards new innovations without which man’s chance to survive natural disasters is waning rather than waxing.
Perhaps the military technology may have much to offer in this direction. Chances are that incendiary chemicals or foams when thrown onto the fire in the form of a bomb may prevent the fire from spreading out following the fire track. I think, the world physical scientists should direct their attentions towards the discovery of new ways that could be capable to combat such natural forces of any magnitude. Certainly, such a research will involve finance, manpower and the proper venue, which, I feel is a better choice than crying over spilt-milk and going through the stereotype steps of action. Should we ask then the political will of the major world powers to look at it positively?
