Adowa gets 8
million Birr hotel
A hotel constructed in Adowa town of Central Tigray State with
an outlay of over eight million Birr has begun rendering service.
The three-storey building hotel has various service facilities including
a meeting hall, hotel owner Tsegaye Medhane said.
The newly constructed hotel has created job opportunities to more
than 30 people. Mayor of the town, Araya Merid for his part said
that the hotel would contribute a lot to provide efficient services
to tourists who come to the historic town.
He said investment license were issued to investors who register
a combined capital of over 41 million Birr over the past six months.
Araya said more than seven hectares of land was also designated
as an industrial zone in the town. (ENA)
Silte Zone constructing schools with over
7mln birr
Some seven primary schools have been constructed in Silte Zone
of SNNP State with more than seven million birr this budget year,
the zonal Education Department said. Department Supervision Coordinator
Muhaba Hassen said construction of the schools was launched last
September in Lafro, East Azerinet and Ulbarg woredas with the support
of African Development Fund.
Upon going operational next academic year the projects would enable
over 3,000 children of farmers to attend schools in their neighborhood,
the coordinator added. Some 50,216 new students were enrolled this
academic following the agitation carried out in 186 kebeles to make
parents send all school-age children to school, he pointed out.
Administrative bodies, teachers and the public are undertaking encouraging
activities to meet the target of one primary school for each kebele,
according to the coordinator. Construction of the new schools will
have immense contribution towards increasing the 97 percent primary
school coverage of the zone, he indicated. (Walta)
Tigray community in Boston raises 55,000
USD for disabled veterans
The Tigray community in Boston (USA) and environs reportedly raised
close to 55,000 USD for Tigray Disabled Veterans Association (TDVA).
According to a press release sent to WIC, the fund raising event
was attended by a delegation led by Honorable Asmelash Woldesellasse
who praised those which donated to support the association.
The delegation had also a chance to meet members of the community
to discus their project and to answer to questions raised on issue
of socio-economic and political development and the challenges in
the country. The Boston Tigray Women's Association on its part donated
5,000 USD. Chairperson of the association on the occasion appreciated
the sacrifices of the heroic sons and daughters and expressed her
pleasure in meeting the delegation.
Head of the delegation, Honorable Asmelash explained the role of
Tigray women during the armed struggle and the high number of female
Tigray disabled veterans. He also expressed gratitude to the association
and underscored its importance to TDVA. The Union of Tigrayans in
North America (UTNA) sponsored the fund raising event, it was learnt.

Oromia State constructing over 21,000 condos
with over 700 million birr
The Oromia State Housing Development Office said the construction
of over 21,000 condominium houses is underway with an outlay of
more than 700 million birr to alleviate the shortage of residential
houses in the various towns of the state. Office Head Mulugeta Dinka
told WIC that construction of the houses is underway in 16 towns
with severe shortage of housing.
Part of the construction work on more than 9,000 houses has been
finalized while construction of the remaining over 12,000 works
will be launched next week, Mulugeta indicated. Construction of
the houses will alleviate 40 percent of the housing problem in towns,
he said, adding that the project has created jobs to 376 contractors
and over 32,000 individuals organized under micro and small-scale
enterprises.
The head said the houses are expected to be handed over to residents
in the coming two years and noted that the state government has
planned to construct close to 67,000 houses in the coming four years
to reliably alleviate the shortage of housing in the state. (Walta)
Tgiray licenses 2.5 billion birr investment
projects
Investment projects with an aggregate capital of 2.5 billion Birr
were licensed in the last Ethiopian fiscal year, the Tigray State
Investment Office said. Projects follow up and Evaluation Expert
with the Office, Girmay Gebreyesus told ENA that the licenses were
given to 155 investors.
He said the projects are in the areas of agriculture and hotel development
sectors, among others. Girmay said when the projects fully go operational;
they would create jobs over 7,000 new jobs. The investment flow
has been increasing from year to year; he said. Girmay said 942.6
million Birr worth investments were licensed last same period. (ENA)
26 million birr modern terminal, tower being
constructed in Gambella Airport
The Ethiopian Airports Enterprise and the Ethiopian Civil Aviation
Authority said they are undertaking the construction of Modern terminal
and air navigation control tower in Gambella Airport at a cost of
26 million Birr.
Gambella Air port Administration head, Gebreyohannes Hagos told
ENA that the construction of the facilities will enable the Airport
to enhance its service provision capacity. The construction of these
facilities would help to enhance the investment activities in the
region, he added. The construction was launched last year and includes
a one storey building, guest rooms for passengers, offices, cafeterias
and other facilities. He said when the construction completed at
end of this budget the airport would entertain big airplane and
enhance its existing capacity of 52 airplanes to 137. (ENA)
