International cooperation on health is delivering positive results at a time when the world is dealing with multiple challenges such as climate change, conflict and economic austerity, a senior United Nations official said on Monday, calling on countries to continue their efforts to improve public health.
“The climate is changing; antibiotics are failing; the world population keeps getting bigger and older and costs are soaring at a time of nearly universal austerity,” stated the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Margaret Chan, according to UN News which quoted her as saying in a report to the agency’s Executive Board in Geneva. “The challenges facing public health are big and increasingly universal, but they are not insurmountable,” she added.
