The United Nations carries out an annual competition for the best development practices and results gained in UN-led development activities. This year, among the names of winners of the twelve best practices of the year awards included two Ethiopian farmers. Mohammed Seid, and Seid Ibrahim, farmers from the South Wollo locality in the Amhara Regional state were selected as recipients of the awards for their successful implementation of improved agricultural techniques and seeds. The decision was made by the executive board of UNFPA/UNDP. Helen Clark, Chief Administrator of UNDP, handed over the awards to Aman Hassen, Deputy Head of Ethiopia’s Permanent Mission to the UN. A statement from the Permanent mission hailed the awards as recognition to Ethiopia’s efforts to mitigate climate change adversities and fight drought. (Ethiopian News Agency)
