Giorgis, AbaJifar appear title favorites

Share

With four games  to go, defending champions Saint George appear to be in pole position to retain the Premier League title for a record fifth time in a row.
Gebremedin Haile and company have a relatively favorable remaining schedule. If they stay focused and composed the title should be theirs.
Saint George’s next two matches are at home against city rival Dedebit, who has played poorly lately and relegation threatened Wolayta Dicha. Then they have an away match against title contender Adama and then they end their season against visiting Hawassa.
Saint George has a strong championship winning mentality, a squad with lots of experience so it looks like the title is theirs to lose.
Though AbaJifar does not have much experience winning championships, they have some things in their favor. They do not have a strong schedule remaining. They play two games at home. They face bottom of the table Woldya and then Dedebit. Afterwards they travel to Wolayta Dicha followed by the finale against strong side Adama at home.
Abajifar could emerge as a surprise champion. The brilliancy of Okiki Afolabi and the much talked about team spirit are additional advantages Abajifar has.
With two strong away fixtures against Hawassa and Fasil and another two tricky home fixtures against relegation threatened Diredawa and title contender Mekele, Ethiopia Bunna has an outside if not impossible chance of winning the title for the  second time in its history.
Strong outfit Mekele entertains humble side Mekelakya and Ethio-Electric, which is in a relegation nightmare then faces Sidam Bunna away followed by the season closing showdown in Addis Ababa against popular Ethiopia Bunna. With an optional tactical approach and diehard team spirit Mekele has two things going for it but they lack a title winning mentality.
Adama has two home and away fixtures left; against relegation threatened Arbaminch and Welwalo-Adigrat and title contenders Saint George and Jimma AbaJifar home and away, This hard schedule means Adama is in need of extra energy to go all the way.
