Awash Bank doubles down on ‘Tatariwochu project’ by unveiling second round

One of the top tier banks in the country, Awash Bank, unveils the second round of its resourceful business training youth project, Tatariwochu/Qaxaleewwan project, which is believed to play a major role in solving the unemployment problem in the country. 

Tsehay Shiferaw, CEO of Awash Bank, at the announcement ceremony applauded the competition which aims to encourage new business owners, stating, “This competition aims to encourage entrepreneurs who have creative skills but could not implement them due to lack of finance.”

With regards to eligibility for the competition, it was highlighted that any youth who have problem-solving or business ideas and who are above 18 years of age or above the tenth grade, were eligible to participate in the innovation competition dubbed “Tatariwochu / Qaxaleewwan”.

In the second round of the business creation competition, which was officially launched on October 5, 2023, it was revealed that the winner of the project will receive 1 million ETB and a (clean loan) of up to 5 million ETB to scale up the business. The bank also announced that it has prepared cash prizes for the second to fifth winners of the competition.

The bank, which has made an agreement with the consulting company “First Consent” to lead the competition for the next two years, also disclosed that, “Beginner entrepreneurs can apply from October 23 to November 23, 2023, online or in person at all branches of the bank.”
