Ethiopia to use drones to deliver medical supplies

The Ministry of Health said it is set to use drone technology (UAVs) to deliver medicines, vaccines, blood supplies and other medical equipment to various parts of the country.
Discussions on ways to begin the drone delivery system in 2011 Ethiopian fiscal year were held with stakeholders, said Dr. Amir Aman, Minister of Health of Ethiopia.
The drones, which the country is considering using during the next Ethiopian fiscal year, could operate in all weather conditions and are capable of carrying 5 kilograms of medical supplies, he said.
Dr. Amir said his ministry would invest all efforts to save lives by building infrastructureand preparing policy frameworks that allow the country to use new technologies.
