The Ministry of Science and Technology have signed an MOU with Synergy Habesha Films and Communications P.L.C. to work together for the Technovation Ethiopia 2018 project. Technovation offers girls around the world the opportunity to learn the necessary skills to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders.
Technovation Ethiopia also partners with UNESCO-IICBA committed to supporting this initiative, which aims to empower young women to take part in technology and entrepreneurship. More than 15 schools and 75 high school students (public and private schools) will participate in this competition.
Synergy Habesha Films and Communications call on all government, non-government, private companies and technology companies to participate in this great technological event and to create opportunities for girls to take part in technological innovations.
Technovation is the world’s largest and longest running tech competition for girls. Every year Technovation invites teams of girls from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to solve real world problems. Girls from ages 10 to 18 learn to identify a problem in their communities and to create a mobile app solution to address that problem; they learn how to communicate these ideas and translate them into a fully launched business.
Last year, Synergy Habesha Films and Communications P.L.C. collaborated with Ethio-Mosaic Events and Festivals P.L.C and UNESCO IICBA in bringing this world’s largest and longest running tech competition to Ethiopia.
Twelve teams of girls from ten different schools (60 girls) participated and presented their pitch. The mobile applications developed by the participating students focused on the goals set by United Nations; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which include Education, Health, Equality, Poverty, Environment and Peace.
The Ministry of Science and Technology will support the Technovation Ethiopia project by creating opportunities for girls in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Field.
