Japan-Kenya Foreign Ministers’ Working Dinner

On August 25, commencing at 6:55 p.m. for approximately 80 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a working dinner with H.E. Dr. Wycliffe Musalia MUDAVADI, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya. The overview is as follows.

At the outset, Minister Kamikawa welcomed Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi’s visit to Japan. Minister Kamikawa then stated that she would like to take the bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena with Kenya, an important like-minded country that shares fundamental values and principles such as rule of law, to a higher level, by steadily following up on the outcomes of President Ruto’s visit to Japan in February this year. In response, Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi congratulated on the success of the TICAD Ministerial Meeting and expressed his appreciation for Japan’s support to date and for the operation of Japanese companies in Kenya. Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi also stated that he would like to further strengthen bilateral relations and co-operation in the international arena with Japan, including through a follow-up of the President’s visit to Japan.
Referring to the progress of the outcomes of President Ruto’s visit to Japan in February this year, Minister Kamikawa stated that she was very pleased for the agreement to launch the Japan-Kenya Policy Dialogue, which aims to steadily follow up on the outcomes of President Ruto’s visit. Minister Kamikawa also stated that she would like to support Japanese companies to expand their operations in Kenya by utilizing such mechanisms as promoting collaboration between Japanese companies and third-country companies. In response, Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi expressed his intention to continue to work closely between the diplomatic authorities, including at a high level, through the Japan-Kenya Policy Dialogue, which they concurred on launching. Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi also stated that the Government of Kenya would address the challenges facing Japanese companies and that he would support the potential of collaboration between Japanese companies and third-country companies. Both sides concurred on the importance of strengthening connectivity and cooperation in the maritime domain and active use of “Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa”.
Both sides also exchanged views on such issues as Security Council reform, the situations in Ukraine and the Horn of Africa, and other cooperation in the international arena, and confirmed their continued collaboration.

Eritrea: Natnael Berhane Wins at Grand Prix Soganli

Eritrean professional cyclist Natnael Berhane, a member of Istanbul Belediye Spor, secured first place in the one-day race held in Turkey.

Natnael completed the 112.8 km race in 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 35 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 44.6 km per hour.

Additionally, his teammate, Petros Mengis, finished in 4th place, 2 minutes behind Natnael.

In a related achievement, Eritrean professional cyclist Dawit Yemane, representing Bike Aid, won the King of the Mountains jersey during the second stage of the Lidl Deutschland Tour 2024, which took place on 23 August.

The 39th edition of the Lidl Deutschland Tour 2024 will conclude with the 5th stage, scheduled for Sunday.

President El-Sisi Meets Minister of Justice and Head of National Organization for Social Insurance

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Minister of Justice, Counselor Adnan Al-Fangari, and Head of the National Organization for Social Insurance, Major General Gamal Awad.

The President reviewed the progress being made to enhance the efficiency of the litigation system and expedite the resolution of cases before the courts, particularly through the implementation of modern technological means and digital transformation. This includes continuing to upgrade the facilities and buildings of the current courts across all governorates and expanding the establishment and operation of documentation and real estate registration offices, linking them to a unified system. The President also followed up on the technical development of the National Organization for Social Insurance, including the integration of its databases with those of the Ministry of Justice and its affiliated agencies, and the establishment of unified regulations and rules concerning the pensions of members of judicial entities and authorities.

President El-Sisi Meets the United States Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General Charles Q. Brown, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting was attended by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Minister of Defense and Military Production, General Abdel Mageed Saqr, as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Cairo, Herro Mustafa Garg.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, said the meeting focused on the ongoing developments in the Middle East. President El-Sisi emphasized that the current regional situation demands decisive action from the international community and all relevant parties to exert every effort and intensify pressure to defuse tensions and halt the escalation threatening the security and stability of the entire region. The President specifically warned of the dangers of opening a new front in Lebanon and affirmed the need to preserve Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty.

President El-Sisi also underscored the importance of responding to the joint Egyptian-American-Qatari efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and facilitating the exchange of prisoners and detainees, which would help to advance the path toward de-escalation and stability in the region.

The President highlighted the dire humanitarian conditions endured by the Palestinian people in Gaza, which necessitate an immediate halt to the conflict to deliver the massive amounts of relief and medical aid required. President El-Sisi reaffirmed the need for international efforts to launch a comprehensive political process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the framework of a two-state solution, as the basis for sustainable regional stability.

The meeting touched on the profound strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, highlighting the continuous cooperation and coordination between the two countries in various fields, particularly in security and military matters. The U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting stability, security, and peace. He looked forward to further promoting joint military cooperation to broader prospects, thereby serving the two countries’ mutual interests and reinforcing stability and peace in the Middle East.
