German embassy funds new resource room at PCB PDF Print E-mail

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany provided funding of ETB 300,000 for the opening of a resource room at the Pioneer Collegiate for the Blind (PCB).

The fund enables the blind and visually impaired trainees of PCB and their staff members to make wide use of information and communication services.
During the opening ceremony on October 11, 2012, in the presence of Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ethiopia Liese lore Cyrus and other dignitaries, graduates and participants in the on-the-job training program displayed significant skills and showed how they applied information technology in their profession.
The newly opened resource center is equipped with the necessary computers and accessory devices as well as tables and other materials which will be of huge benefit to trainees and staff members in accessing and exchanging information.
“We’re extremely grateful to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ethiopia for recognizing the life-changing impact of technology and supporting it through their Fund, ATCB would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Embassy for this act of philanthropy and the unwavering support it has been giving to our vision and mission to empower the blind and visually impaired persons in Ethiopia,” stated a representative of Adaptive Technology Center for the Blind.
Adaptive Technology Center for the Blind (ATCB) is a non-governmental and non-profit making Ethiopian Residents Charitable Society licensed and registered by the Charities and Societies Agency.
Besides, engaging in large scale computerized Braille transcription service for the benefit of blind and visually impaired users, it also focuses on boosting the capacity of the blind and visually impaired community for accessing all sources of information and communication.The ATCB Centre trains people with sight loss in how to use technology to communicate, gain and retain employment and live independently.
